About Us

Hello, my name is Jeffrey J. Wilson, and I have a love of horses. I decided that it was time to start taking care of some of the horses in this area that are being abused, neglected, or unwanted and rehabilitate them, if needed, thus giving them a second chance at a good life.

Senior Honors

Hello, my name is Senior Honors. I am an ex-race horse. The person with me is my new owner. He thinks I'm worth a million as far as a horse goes. He could not bear to know that I might have been killed. My story goes that a former owner used to keep me in a stock trailer as my stall. In the summer that trailer was very hot and I had been mistreated to the point that I had lost a lot of weight. A vet found me and told someone about me and showed me to them.

They did take me home, but all I ever did was live in a 12 by 12 stall. Not much of a life for a horse.

Well, along came this man (Jeff) and he paid my boarding fees and brought me to my new home. At my new home I found I had a brother that I could touch, not just see. I even get to go outside and play in the yard every day. I didn't know how to do that kind of thing. My brother was a little older and he taught me a lot about what a horse is supposed to do. As you can see by the picture at the top of the page, I have found me a home that I am very comfortable with.

We are located in north central Pennsylvania, in a little town called Tioga.

We became incorporated In August 2003. We received our 501(c)3 statues on May 25, 2005. The 501(c)3 makes all donations tax deductible.

I started the J & J Horse Rescue and Riding Arena after looking for another horse as a companion after I had gotten my first horse to use in Civil War reenactments. Due to a leg injury I could no longer go to battle so I found a way by going on horseback. In my search for the second horse I found other horse rescues on the Internet but there was nothing close to where I lived. The second horse that I had found was named Senior Honors, an off the track Thoroughbred that had been neglected. I paid his boarding fee and brought him home. After working with him and getting weight back on him I spent many hours riding him.

I discovered that I had a knack for caring for horses. I was off work at the time having had the second operation on my leg. I started the J & J Horse Rescue and Riding Arena so I would have something to keep me busy while I recovered.

One of the questions that I am asked a lot is who the other J in the J & J is. Both of the Js are the same person. Me. My initials are J J. The name didn’t have a good sound or ring to it as JJs Horse Rescue so I added the "&" which made it J & J which sounded so much better.

We are staffed by all volunteers. We can always use more volunteers. There are many things that need to be done. For an example, fundraising can be done anywhere in the country by a person that wants to help.

We also offer trail riding by appointment.
